Innovation on the beaches
The Harbord Diggers development is considered a first of its kind intergenerational community hub. Mounties Group vision for Harbord Diggers is to create strong community spaces that include entertainment, living, fitness, dining, wellbeing and childcare. With views out across the ocean and beach from almost every section of the Club, the new Harbord Diggers will offer the greatest cafes and restaurants in the area.
Cafés, dining and bars
What better way to soak up the community atmosphere that comes with intergenerational living than by having a coffee with friends whilst taking in the stunning views. Harbord Diggers features two cafés to choose from, both serving delicious treats in a wonderful relaxed ambience.
There are also a range of sophisticated restaurants to choose from in the intergenerational area providing tantalizing options seven days a week. The restaurants feature an alfresco weather protected dining area, so the majesty of the surrounding area can truly be appreciated over meals. All on-site restaurants feature an exemplary level of service that captures the quality and diversity of the precinct.
Harbord Diggers will feature an excellent bar open seven days a week and perfect for watching sport over a beer and catching up with friends. There are also a variety of outdoor areas from which you can enjoy afternoon drinks, snacks and sharing plates. What better way to absorb stunning ocean views than with a well-earned drink at sunset?
Fitness and aquatic centres
Spread across two levels and featuring modern equipment, facilities and services, the Fitness Centre and Aquatic Centre at Harbord Diggers will be a truly inspiring space to work out. Heated indoor pool, dedicated learn to swim programs, cardio room, weights room and group exercise classes are just the beginning of what will be offered. Looking out onto panoramic ocean views and beautiful gardens, this centre will be the most inspiring space to exercise in on the Northern Beaches.
Watermark Freshwater is a destination that the whole family will enjoy visiting. Grandchildren will love spending time with their grandparents on the beach and will remember Watermark as a place filled with wonder and excitement. Not only will the children adore the beach, but there are also plenty of activities and facilities at the precinct that they, and the rest of the family, will love. Having this intergenerational hub in Freshwater provides a place for the local community to bond and guarantees that future generations will stay connected to the area.
History and legacy
In the 1930s Australian soldiers founded Harbord Diggers so they could have a place to socialise, share a beer and ensure the sacrifices of their friends were not forgotten. From its inception the Diggers were a Not for Profit social enterprise, selling water on the beach they sought to earn money for war widows in the local community. Harbord Diggers made Northern Beaches’ history by donating the first CAT scan machine to Manly Hospital and the first motorised lifesaving boat to the Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club. Today Harbord Diggers continues to serve the community through involvement with the Nippers, Swim School, Freshwater Surf Life Saving Club, Bear Cottage, Stewart House and the CareFlight service.
